A major oil & gas company in Qatar needed to prepare its gas compressor system for an oil upgrade while avoiding downtime. Oil analysis showed critical varnish potential with MPC levels above 50, requiring removal of oxidation deposits to prevent cross-contamination with the new oil.
Fluitec, working with Petrotec, deployed the Vita ESP III unit to remove degradation products and added Boost VR to improve oil solubility and mitigate varnish. The treatment was performed approximately three months prior to the oil upgrade without shutting down the machine.
Within four days, MPC values dropped to safe levels and stayed within limits throughout the three-month period leading up to the upgrade. Nine months after the upgrade, all lubricant parameters, including MPC, remained healthy. The project delivered 1,513% ROI, ensuring long-term reliability and uptime.
Problem
The compressor had elevated varnish potential over a long period (MPC stable >50, critical), and the system needed to be prepared for an oil upgrade without shutting down. Oxidation deposits had to be removed to avoid cross-contamination with the new oil.
Solution
The team at Petrotec helped in deploying Fluitec’s Vita ESP III unit and it was connected to the reservoir to remove degradation products. Boost VR was added to increase oil solubility and mitigate varnish. The treatment was performed ~3 months prior to the oil upgrade, with no machine shutdown.
Results
- MPC dropped to very low levels within 4 days; remained within acceptable limits over the following three months, enabling a clean oil upgrade without cross-contamination.
- Nine months after the upgrade, all lube oil parameters, including MPC, remained within acceptable limits.
