Singapore Power Plant Avoids Shutdown with DECON and VITA ESP

A power generation plant in Singapore faced rising MPC values and elevated small particle counts in a critical gas turbine, signaling active varnish formation and a growing risk of unplanned shutdown.

The plant installed Fluitec’s ESP VITA II unit and added DECON to the system. Within one month, MPC dropped from 21 to 3, eliminating the need for a chemical flush and avoiding downtime.

After one full year, MPC and particle counts remained in the normal range. Antioxidant levels stayed stable with no rapid depletion. Oil life increased by at least 50%, delivering USD 50,000 in cost savings while improving overall plant availability.

Problem

Client began experiencing elevated MPC levels and high values of small particle counts. This indicated the presence of agglomerated varnish compounds which could threaten the availability of the power plant.

Solution

Fluitec’s ESP VITA II unit was installed on the system and DECON was added.

Results

After installation of the ESP Vita II unit and the addition of DECON to the system, the client noticed a drop in MPC value from 21 to 3 within one month. This eliminated the need to perform a chemical flush or have any downtime associated with these flushes or challenges arising from the presence of varnish.

After one year of installation, both the MPC levels and small particle counts have remained in the normal range. The antioxidant levels have also been maintained in the normal range with no rapid depletions. This has significantly increased the oil life by at least 50%.

Cost Savings: $50,000
