A nitric acid production plant in Norway saw bearing temperatures spike one year after an oil change, pushing the compressor out of its operating range and reducing output. DECON was added at two percent and ESP VITA was installed to remove deposits and control contamination. Bearing temperatures dropped immediately from 101°C to 71°C. MPC levels stabilized and production recovered. The project delivered a 1,391 percent ROI.
Problem
In a major nitric acid production plant in Norway, they began experiencing very high bearing temperatures. This occurred one year after changing their oil for this compressor. This negatively impacted on the output of the compressor causing production levels to decline.
Solution
Fluitec’s DECON was added to the system at a rate of 2% and ESP VITA was additionally placed on the system to help remove some of the deposits and keep the oil clean.
Results
The bearing temperatures immediately decreased upon adding DECON to the system. There was a decrease from 101°C to 71°C (back within operational range). The MPC levels are also being maintained within the normal range.
