A major power generation plant in Peru faced rising bearing temperatures in one of its GE gas turbines, threatening a full plant shutdown. Oil analysis showed MPC values at 22, which is technically within the normal range, but the operational symptoms revealed varnish was forming and system reliability was at risk.
Fluitec introduced DECON at a 3% treat rate. Within just 12 days, MPC levels dropped dramatically from 22 to 3.5. Bearing temperatures stabilized, preventing the risk of shutdown and ensuring uninterrupted power delivery to customers.
The result: sustained turbine performance, uninterrupted operations, and an impressive ROI of 2,375%.
Problem
One of the gas turbines in a major power generation plant began experiencing some issues during operation. There was an increase in bearing temperatures and this threatened the shutdown of the entire plant. Upon testing, it was found that the MPC level for the turbine was at 22 which is still within the normal range.
Solution
After assessing the existing conditions and DECON was added to the sump at a treat rate of 3%. This should assist in reducing the temperatures and removing some of the varnish which existed within the system.
Results
After DECON was added, the MPC levels drastically reduced to 3.5 within 12 days. This ensured that the plant could remain operational during this time and continued to provide power to their end users.
