Overview
A major pulp and paper manufacturer in Indonesia experienced pressure control valve failures on a calendar roll due to heavy deposit buildup from oil degradation. These failures led to inconsistent product quality, lost productivity, and production waste. Fluitec’s partner PKN and ExxonMobil Lubricants Indonesia identified the root cause—deposits obstructing the servo valves and disrupting pressure regulation.
Mobil™ Solvancer® was circulated through the hydraulic system to dissolve internal deposits before draining and inspection. The system was then charged with Mobil DTE 10 Excel 100. All deposits were removed, valve performance was restored, and the manufacturer has reported no recurring issues. The solution delivered a 420% ROI.
Problem
A Calendar roll at a major pulp and paper manufacturer in Indonesia experienced pressure control valve failures due to the build up of deposits from oil degradation products. This would affect the quality of their finished products causing wastage, low productivity and losses in production.
Solution
Fluitec’s partner, PT Karya Prima Nusa (PKN) worked alongside PT ExxonMobil Lubricants Indonesia (EMLI) to investigate the root causes of failure for this equipment through oil analysis and on-site analysis. They used Mobil Solvancer to clean the insides of the equipment and then replaced the existing oil with Mobil DTE 10 Excel 100.
Results
EMLI and PKN identified deposit accumulation in the machine’s servo valves, which disrupted valve function and impaired pressure regulation. The issue was attributed to extended oil drain intervals, causing oil degradation and subsequent deposit formation.
Mobil Solvancer was introduced into the system along with the existing oil to dissolve internal deposits. After circulation, the contaminated oil was drained and the system inspected. As evidenced in the photo below, Mobil Solvancer effectively removed all deposits. A fresh charge of Mobil DTE 10 Excel 100 was then added, and no further issues have been reported since.
