A petrochemical plant in northwest China saw thrust bearing temperatures rise to 112°C on a critical MHI ERC ethylene refrigeration compressor. A shutdown was not an option due to high market demand. DECON A was transported more than 4,500 kilometers by dedicated vehicle for immediate use. At 1am, the plant dosed the system, and temperatures dropped from 112°C to 108°C almost instantly. The unit stayed online and production continued without interruption, delivering a 1,568 percent ROI.
Problem
A petrochemical plant with a MHI Ethylene Refrigeration Compressor saw a thrust bearing temperature of 112°C over a four day period. With this temperature, they would be forced to shutdown if the unit tripped. Unfortunately, the plant could not risk shutting down as market prices were very favourable for their product and every ounce of product mattered. They needed a solution quickly and air-freight was not an option domestically.
Solution
Fluitec’s DECON A was dispatched with a dedicated vehicle and 2 drivers for a non-stop 4500+ km journey from East China to the Northwest Border region.
Results
At 1am, DECON A was added to the system and almost immediately, a 4°C temperature drop was noted as the temperatures decreased from 112 to 108°C. The unit did not have to shutdown nor was there any impact on the production levels.
