Our B Corp Journey
Fluitec began its B Corp Journey over a year ago. After becoming the first and only Industrial lubricant company to become B Corp certified, we have seen tremendous changes to our organization and its impact on the world. When we became certified, we joined over 3,800 certified B Corporations in 150 different industries. Today, there are over 4300 companies in 77 countries. We are proud to be part of this global movement of people using business as a force for good.
Initially, the B Corp movement began in 2006. Three friends left their careers in business and private equity to create an organization dedicated to making it easier for mission-driven companies to protect and improve their positive impact over time. Within the first year, over 82 B Corps were certified!
Why should a company become B Corp Certified?
All B Corp certified companies balance purpose with profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment.
One of the main aims of B Corp companies is to ensure that businesses meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit with purpose. B corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high quality jobs with dignity and purpose. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.
Fluitec, A Force for Good
B Corps envision a global economy which uses business as a force for good. This means that B Corp businesses are purpose driven and create benefits for all stakeholders, not just the shareholders. Since we began this journey, we have seen a significant increase in interactions among all of our stakeholders as we work together to positively impact the community, environment, workers and customers.
To become B Corp certified, companies are assessed in these 5 areas; governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Here is a bit more info on each of the sectors and the sub areas in which we were assessed.
In this area, Fluitec’s overall mission, engagement around its social and environment impact, ethics and transparency were evaluated. One very interesting area within this area was the ‘Mission Locked’ segment. This assesses the Impact Business Model and the specific positive outcome created for one of the company’s stakeholders such as workers, community, environment or customers. Our ability to formally consider stakeholders in decision making through corporate structure or corporate governing documents.
Fluitec’s contributions to its employee’s financial security, health and safety, wellness, career development, as well as overall engagement and satisfaction were assessed in this area. B Corp also takes into consideration business models which are designed to benefit workers.
Another area in which we were evaluated was community. In this area, Fluitec’s engagement with and impact on the communities in which we operate, hire from and source from was evaluated. The topics in which we were assessed included; diversity, equity and inclusion, economic impact, civic engagement, charitable giving and supply chain management. B Corp also recognizes business models which are designed to address specific community oriented programs such as poverty alleviation through fair trade sourcing or distribution via microenterprises, producer cooperative models, locally focused economic development and formal charitable giving commitments.
Our overall environmental management practices as well as their impact on the air, climate, water land and biodiversity were assessed in this category. This included the direct impact on a company’s operations and where applicable its supply chain and distribution channels. Fluitec was also recognized for our products which produce positive environmental impact namely our “Fill 4 Life” initiative using the Infinity TO product as well as our products which Boost AO & Infinity TO which were awarded the “1000 Solutions Challenge” by Solar Impulse.
Fluitec’s impact on our customers was evaluated. This included our stewardship of our customers through the quality of our products and services, ethical marketing, data privacy and security and feedback channels. B Corp also recognized products or services which are designed to address particular social problems for or through our customers such as health or educational products, arts and media products, serving underserved customers or clients and services which improve the social impact of other businesses or organizations.
Fluitec is making a difference by not only adding to the bottom line for thousands of companies but also adding true sustainability to these companies and the environment. Becoming A B Corp Company helped us to help others and the environment. Now we are part of a global community aimed towards being a Force for Good. Join the Movement today!
