Welcome to the Q3 2005 edition of Fluitec On-Site, bringing you the latest technology information from Fluitec. We bring you case stories featuring FLUITEC customer solutions, services and products, as well as the latest in technological developments. Be sure to inform your colleagues about this subscription service. In this issue, you will find product information featuring following subjects: The value of antioxidant monitoring for Biogas Engine Lubricants – with the increasing use of new environmentally friendly energy sources, we see an important growth of natural biogas engines being used to power primary electrical power plants. Typically with biogas engines, special oil formulations have been made available, in order to meet the high oxidation and nitration requirements. In the next page we will present you how a few of the RULER features and its antioxidant monitoring capabilities can results in significant cost savings- Biogas Engines Monitoring wind turbine gear oils with RULER as part of reliability and maintenance program – during their operation time of 3-4 years time wind turbine gear oils, as mineral or synthetic based oils, are faced with medium to severe oxidation conditions. Metal catalysts, water contamination and local overheating all result in varying antioxidant depletion. In the last 3 years RULER has helped wind turbine operators to generate more useful analysis information on wide range of wind turbine gear lubricants. Wind Turbine gear oils. Remaining Grease Life testing by Voltammetry – A new generation of Greases for medium to high temperature applications have been developed and commercialized by the oil companies. With longer maintenance intervals there is a need by both laboratory and field-test centers to confirm the oxidative life expectations. As Antioxidants play a major role in meeting these requirements, Fluitec has fine-tuned the test method to be used on a wide range of greases. But how is the voltammetric test method correlating with conventional grease test methods? Grease Testing ELGI RULER technology, replacement technology for RPVOT testing - In both Europe as well N. America we see a general trend with the new generation of (long-life, high temperature turbine oils) to start using RULER method, replacing the RPVOT test methods. As a field test, it is not only faster to perform, but it will also enable users to perform a trend of individual antioxidant consumption during the lifetime of the power generation lubricants. How the RULER method correlates with RPVOT, you can see on the following page. – RPVOT Testing Follow the links and read the different subjects in more detail.
