Feedback on ASTM Symposium on Oxidation and the Testing of Turbine Oils
December 5, 2005 - Marriott Norfolk, VA Feedback on ASTM Symposium on Oxidation and the Testing of Turbine Oils ASTM International D02 Committee (Fuels and Lubricants), organized this last December 5th, 2005, the Symposium entitled ”The Newest Trends of Turbine oils Oxidation and Testing methods”. From the different papers presented by the participating OEM’s (SIEMENS), end users (FOCUS LAB, ANALYSTS Inc), lubricant producers (SHELL, STATOIL, CHEVRON), lubricant additive manufacturers (ALBEMARLE, LUBRIZOL, CIBA SC), and standard test method developers (ASTM, DIN) the new trends were presented for new and improved oxidation testing of turbine and other industrial oils. During the Forum Discussion at the end of the symposium, the following main fundamental parameters were selected for turbine oil testing: Ø The Importance of Antioxidants Monitoring (FTIR, RULER) Ø Sludge and Varnish Potential Ø Temperature Conditions Ø The Importance of OEM-Specifications Ø New vs. Used Oil Testing If you are interested in copies of the different (12) papers being presented, ASTM Journal of ASTM International (JAI) will be offering all the presented papers for sale at their website, during the month of March/April 2006.
